Once upon a time in 1997 Carter Smith photographed beautiful Shalom Harlow for a story published in the October issue of British Vogue. The editorial was indeed so special that it inspired photographer Chris Craymer and fashion director Charlotte-Anne Fidler who obviously hit the inspiration wall and decided to use the original for their own creation published in the November issue of Glamour UK. Well, as Rose Bertin, the French milliner and dress maker to Marie Antoinette, said once, “there is nothing new except what is forgotten”. And how embarrassing it must be when the iconic image loved by many for years just pops up out of nowhere…

Wow, that's wild. Personally, the original will always be my favorite, I hadn't realized that they'd copied the original image so closely. (Although, the jacket in the new version is pretty gorgeous.)
ReplyDeleteAh, I love your wit! Why don't they simply state that it's a remake, as they do with movies? Just like with films, they are never as good as the originals, but at least they credit the inspiration source. And there's no shame in that!
ReplyDeleteHa! Running out of inspiration?
ReplyDeleteI used to really love Shalom, she did this one shoot where she decided to jump into a pool in a mega expensive dress and as she was climbing the steps the shot was taken, all I can say is 'perfection'.

Beautiful pictures :) I like the coat in the second one, but the first one means more and creates more mystery due to the facial expression!!

Очень нравится вторая фотография! И само фото, и пальто в отдельности :)
ReplyDeleteА ещё мне понравился твой блог, очень интересный!
What an interesting story! I didn't know they 'remake' the original iconic picture, but I think that happens with everything iconic that becomes art like this photo. I would consider it more of a 'homage' as sleepandwater said!

ReplyDeleteI loved Shalom. Oh Wow! This is amazing! I have a problem with things being copied. It's never like the original.
