First glimpse of summer with Reiss

reiss-spring-summer2012-1

Here I am, right in a middle of winter, falling in love with pieces from Reiss Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The clean and modern lines inspired by past Calvin Klein campaigns and vintage Jean Paul Gaultier that also reminded me of the resent Chloe, Erdem and Proenza collections felt so timeless (and so me), I wanted to have everything.

I love the fact that every piece feels fresh, young and wearable, easy to incorporate into an existent wardrobe or mix with the other clothes and accessories. I adore the colour palette: classic blue and white, delicate neutrals complemented with pastel hues of mint and apricots, deep auburn and crisp aquamarine and citrus yellow accents mixed with metallics and creams.

The prints create a story of its own. The journey begins organically with intricately hand drawn florals, which are repeated and distorted to give a more graphic illusion. Hand drawn birds are digitally printed onto smoky backgrounds and insect wings are blown up to become unrecognisable.

Watery abstracts and stripes feature later for a poolside vibe. Unusual coloured, almost snake-effect textures in print and burnout feel effortless, versatile and easy to wear. Clashing palm prints and botanicals are styled together for a playful juxtaposition.

The simple lines of beautiful shoes and bags create that essential minimalistic touch, but at the same time add tiny eye-catching finishing details. Exotics include snakeskin and nubuck crocodile, and metallic details appear on toecaps and heels. Sculptural clutches are oversized or small and include 3-D detailing. The ‘new’ bucket bag features a contrast edge stain and nappa leather ribbon tie.

Although there are particular items that are destined to become must-haves (Callas lace statement jacket, Stilla sheer print and pleat dress, Percy cocoon cropped pant and Pru double layer silk day dress), the entire collection is like the essence of summer whether you need something for the office, a party or just a dress that makes you feel beautiful and free.

  1. What a beautifully written review! I love the colour palette and I adore the floral dress worn with the turquoise clutch. And the nude pleated dress is gorgeous, only I don't wear long dresses or skirts. xoxo
